This morning at about 4 AM my daughter, Haven, went into labor. I’m at her home now watching over her first child while she labors to bring her second, Eleanor, into this world.
Just after awakening to the news that I should head down to Haven’s home, I found myself talking to Eleanor. These were my words:
“The transfer here may be a bit rough, Eleanor, but you’re gonna love it here. Yes we’ve got stresses and strains, cuts and bruises, worries and tears, but it’s so fun to have a body and explore this beautiful world.
We’ve got puddles to jump in, sunshine to warm you in the morning after you get out of the ocean, and a gorgeous silver moon that even changes shape. You’ll find flowers and trees of all shapes, colors, sizes and scents; and an amazing array of creatures on land, in the air, and in the sea that are utterly fascinating to watch and study.
We also have yummy things to taste - from fruit to chocolate to nuts to soup to pizza. And there are so many beautiful sounds to take in, like birdsong and wind or music and your mother’s voice.
You’ll find, too, that there are so many great things to feel: hugs, kisses, baths, laughter, and cozy blankets to name a few.
And so many things to learn and do and discover, that you’ll never exhaust them even if you live to 900.”
So nice to be reminded today just how truly beautiful and wonderful life is when we keep to the simple physical realities of our time here on earth.
Thank you for the reminder, Eleanor.
You’re gonna love it here.
